5 Things You Never Knew About Valentine’s Day, Including Its Start in Ancient Roman

1–Valentine’s Day seemed to get its start in ancient Rome. Emperor Claudius II executed two guys named Valentine on February 14th on different years. The Catholic Church later honored them with the celebration of St. Valentine’s Day.
2–The day became associated with love and lovers in the 14th century with the help of Chaucer.
3–By the 18th century in England it further evolved into a day when lovers expressed their strong feelings for each other with flowers.
4–Heart-shaped symbols of the day began in the 19th century.
5–It wasn’t until the 1920s that Hallmark Cards began pumping out all of that paper that we have today.
