The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau offered tips on what bill collectors cannot do when trying to collect a debt.
1–The debt collector cannot communicate with anyone else but the person who owes the debt without that person’s permission.

2–The debt collector cannot use false means to try to collect the debt.

3–The debt collector cannot use false representations, such as your credit will be ruined unless you pay the whole bill right now.

4–The debt collector cannot communicate with the person in debt at inconvenient times of the day or night. Times considered okay are from 8 am to 9 pm.
